How to print barcode and QR stickers for clothes

A sticker on every piece turns billing into one scan. Here is how to choose the labels, set up the printer and print them, on a label printer or on ordinary A4 sticker sheets.

Barcode or QR?

Both work at the counter. A barcode gun such as the Honeywell 1470g reads both, and a phone camera reads QR codes easily, even small ones. QR codes also fit on smaller labels. Tizo POS prints QR stickers, and pieces that already carry the company's barcode are scanned as they are, with no sticker needed.

Choose the label size

SizeGood for
50 × 25 mmMost clothing tags: shop name, item, size and price next to the QR
38 × 25 mmSmall tags, kids-wear
50 × 30 mm or 64 × 38 mmA big price, or more text
25 × 25 mmQR and code only, for very small items
A4 sticker sheetsNo label printer yet: any office printer

Set up the label printer (TSC TE244 or similar)

  1. Labels and ribbonThe TE244 prints on direct thermal labels without a ribbon, or on paper labels with a wax ribbon. Thermal transfer with a ribbon lasts longer and doesn't fade in sunlight.
  2. Install the driverInstall the printer's Windows driver from TSC, and set the paper to your label size (for example 50 × 25 mm) with the gap between labels (usually 2 – 3 mm).
  3. CalibrateLet the printer measure the labels (auto-calibration, as in its manual) so every print starts at the top of a label.
  4. Print a testPrint one label and scan it with your gun or phone before printing hundreds.

Print the stickers in Tizo POS

  1. Pick the itemsOpen QR stickers, search the products, or tick them in Inventory and press Print QR stickers. Copies = stock gives one sticker for every piece.
  2. Choose the paperLabel roll or A4 sheet, the sticker size, and the layout: QR left, QR on top, big price, or QR and code only.
  3. PrintIn the print window choose the label printer, Margins: None, Scale: 100%. On the counter PC app it prints straight away.

Where to stick it

  • On the hang tag, not on the fabric: stickers can mark silk and delicate cloth.
  • Flat, away from folds and seams, so the gun reads it in one go.
  • The same place on every piece, so staff know where to aim.
  • On a partly used A4 sheet, start at the next free label (Start at label) so no sticker is wasted.

Questions shop owners ask

Do I need a label printer to start?

No. Print on A4 sticker sheets on any printer, and buy a label printer when volumes grow.

Can a phone scan the stickers instead of a barcode gun?

Yes. In the Android app the camera is the scanner. A gun is faster at a busy counter.

My pieces already have barcodes. Do I need stickers?

No. Pieces with the company's barcode are scanned as they are. Print stickers only for the rest.
